The Epiphanic Oath leads me to Bishop in the Grove

July 8th, 2009 Comments Off

This blog began in the early part of 2009 as an experiment in community building. It was intended to be a space where I could explore esoteric subject without self-censorship, and work my way toward a personal, spiritual tradition that worked for me. In this regard, I feel that T.E.O. was a success.

I’m embarking on a journey on the Druid path, and I will be writing about my experiences on a new blog, Bishop in the Grove. Please hop on over to the site and read my first few posts. If you’re interested in what you see, feel free to subscribe for the RSS and, if you feel so moved, leave a comment or send me an e-mail.

Thank you for your readership here at The Epiphanic Oath, and blessings to you today.

Sincerely,

Teo

The Formess Space of the Internet

What will become of all these mystical endeavors?, I wonder.

The Epiphanic Oath led me to the 1Card discipline (#1card), which evolved into the AM and PM Tarot draws on Twitter (#amtarot / #pmtarot), then the Community 3Card Spread, (#3card) and now TeoTarot.com.

And it all began as an experiment in forming community.

I see groups like the Brotherhood of The Phoenix in Chicago, a neo-pagan order for gay and bisexual men, and I think – now that is community. The brothers know each other, see each other regularly, share meals. They do visionary work together, and support one another in their personal lives. They connect online, but not exclusively. Their work is rooted in the physical world first, then it expands outward.

My experiment in community started the other way around.

I’m grateful for the connections I’ve made through this blog, through Twitter, and now on TeoTarot. People keep showing up every morning and evening for the tarot draws, and three times a week for the 3Card. Their consistency inspires me to carry on. There have been many examples of caring, thoughtful communication from people whose faces I only see pixelated, and whose personalities are parsed out to me in 120 character bursts. This is the community I’m nurturing. It may be housed on servers and seen only on screens, but it is my community for the moment.

My hope is that one day, perhaps not long into the future, I will develop ties to a community in the physical world as well; a Brotherhood of my own. We will share meals, conversations (using our voices instead of our keyboards), and all of the wonderful, earthy, communal exchanges that cannot occur in the formless space of the Internet.
